ภายใต้หัวข้อ “Fostering an Inclusive Economic Corridor: Southern Thailand and Northern/East Coast Malaysia” ณ ห้อง Palmyra Room 2 ชั้น 6 โรงแรม The Signature Hotel Airport จังหวัดสงขลา โดยมีผู้แทนจากภาครัฐ ภาคเอกชน สถาบันการศึกษา และองค์กรระหว่างประเทศ จากประเทศไทยและมาเลเซีย เข้าร่วมกว่า 100 คน
การประชุมดังกล่าวจัดขึ้นภายใต้โครงการ “การยกระดับระเบียงเศรษฐกิจร่วมไทย–มาเลเซีย (Deep South Economic Corridor)” ซึ่งมุ่งส่งเสริมความร่วมมือทางเศรษฐกิจระหว่างภาคใต้ของประเทศไทยและพื้นที่ชายฝั่งตอนเหนือและตะวันออกของประเทศมาเลเซีย เพื่อสร้างการเติบโตทางเศรษฐกิจที่ครอบคลุม (Inclusive Growth) และยั่งยืน อันจะนำไปสู่การยกระดับคุณภาพชีวิตของประชาชนในพื้นที่ชายแดนและภูมิภาคโดยรอบ
🔹ภายในงานได้รับเกียรติจาก รศ.ดร.ธนิต เฉลิมยานนท์ รองอธิการบดีฝ่ายวางแผนและการเงิน มหาวิทยาลัยสงขลานครินทร์ กล่าวต้อนรับผู้เข้าร่วมประชุม และ รศ.ดร.ปุ่น เที่ยงบูรณธรรม รองผู้อำนวยการหน่วยบริหารและจัดการทุนด้านการพัฒนาระดับพื้นที่ (บพท.) กล่าวเปิดการประชุม พร้อมนำเสนอวิสัยทัศน์และทิศทางการพัฒนาความร่วมมือเชิงพื้นที่ระหว่างสองประเทศ
🔹ในการนี้ การประชุมได้รับเกียรติจาก ดร.กิริฎา เภาพิจิตร ผู้ช่วยรัฐมนตรีประจำกระทรวงพาณิชย์ กล่าวปาฐกถาพิเศษเกี่ยวกับโอกาสและศักยภาพของการพัฒนาระเบียงเศรษฐกิจไทย–มาเลเซีย โดยเน้นถึงความสำคัญของการเชื่อมโยงด้านการค้า การลงทุน การท่องเที่ยว และห่วงโซ่อุปทานระหว่างสองประเทศ เพื่อเสริมสร้างขีดความสามารถในการแข่งขันและสร้างโอกาสทางเศรษฐกิจใหม่ให้แก่ภูมิภาค
🔹ในช่วงการนำเสนอระดับนโยบาย (Plenary Presentations) ผู้แทนจาก Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA) ประเทศมาเลเซีย พร้อมด้วยนักวิชาการจากมหาวิทยาลัยสงขลานครินทร์ ได้นำเสนอข้อมูลศักยภาพการพัฒนาเศรษฐกิจของทั้งสองภูมิภาค ตลอดจนประเด็นด้านสันติภาพและการพัฒนาในพื้นที่จังหวัดชายแดนภาคใต้ ซึ่งเป็นปัจจัยสำคัญต่อการขับเคลื่อนความร่วมมือทางเศรษฐกิจในระยะยาว
🔹อีกหนึ่งกิจกรรมสำคัญของการประชุม คือ การนำเสนอผลการศึกษาและข้อเสนอแนะจากการรับฟังความคิดเห็นของผู้มีส่วนได้ส่วนเสียในพื้นที่ โดยทีมที่ปรึกษาอาวุโสจากธนาคารโลก ร่วมกับคณะเศรษฐศาสตร์และสถาบันสันติศึกษา มหาวิทยาลัยสงขลานครินทร์ ซึ่งได้ดำเนินการศึกษาวิเคราะห์โอกาส ความท้าทาย และแนวทางการพัฒนาความร่วมมือใน 3 สาขายุทธศาสตร์สำคัญ ได้แก่ การท่องเที่ยว (Tourism) เกษตรกรรมและธุรกิจเกษตร (Agribusiness) โลจิสติกส์ (Logistics)
🔹นอกจากนี้ ผู้เข้าร่วมการประชุมได้ร่วมประชุมกลุ่มย่อย (Breakout Sessions) ตามสาขายุทธศาสตร์ทั้ง 3 ด้าน เพื่อแลกเปลี่ยนความคิดเห็น ระบุปัญหาและอุปสรรค ตลอดจนร่วมกันจัดทำข้อเสนอเชิงนโยบายและข้อเสนอเชิงปฏิบัติการสำหรับการพัฒนาความร่วมมือระหว่างไทยและมาเลเซีย
การประชุมปิดท้ายด้วยเวทีหารือเชิงยุทธศาสตร์ (Plenary: Strategic Discussion) ซึ่งดำเนินรายการโดย Ms. Ditte Fallesen จากธนาคารโลก เพื่อร่วมกำหนดแนวทางดำเนินงานและจัดทำ Roadmap สำหรับการขับเคลื่อนระเบียงเศรษฐกิจร่วมไทย–มาเลเซียในอนาคต โดยมี ผู้ช่วยศาสตราจารย์ ดร.ปรัตถ พรหมมี คณบดีคณะเศรษฐศาสตร์ มหาวิทยาลัยสงขลานครินทร์ กล่าวปิดการประชุมอย่างเป็นทางการ
🔹การประชุมครั้งนี้สะท้อนบทบาทสำคัญของ มหาวิทยาลัยสงขลานครินทร์ ในการนำองค์ความรู้ทางวิชาการ งานวิจัยเชิงพื้นที่ และความร่วมมือระดับนานาชาติมาใช้สนับสนุนการกำหนดนโยบายสาธารณะและการพัฒนาเศรษฐกิจชายแดน อันจะนำไปสู่การสร้างความเชื่อมโยงทางเศรษฐกิจที่เข้มแข็งและการเติบโตอย่างทั่วถึงและยั่งยืนของทั้งประเทศไทยและมาเลเซียในอนาคต

Fostering an Inclusive Economic Corridor: Southern Thailand and Northern/East Coast Malaysia
The World Bank, in collaboration with Prince of Songkla University (PSU) and partner organizations from Thailand and Malaysia, has joined forces to drive Thailand–Malaysia cooperation toward developing an inclusive and sustainable economic corridor.
📍On June 11, 2026, World Bank Thailand, along with Prince of Songkla University, the Program Management Unit for Area-based Development (PMUA), and partner agencies from Thailand and Malaysia, organized a bilateral conference under the theme “Fostering an Inclusive Economic Corridor: Southern Thailand and Northern/East Coast Malaysia.” The event took place at Palmyra Room 2, 6th Floor, The Signature Hotel Airport in Songkhla Province, drawing over 100 representatives from the public and private sectors, academic institutions, and international organizations from both countries.
🔹The conference was held under the framework of the “Deep South Economic Corridor” project, which aims to enhance economic cooperation between Southern Thailand and the Northern and East Coast regions of Malaysia. The initiative focuses on fostering inclusive growth and sustainable development to elevate the quality of life for residents in border areas and surrounding regions.
🔹The event commenced with a welcoming address by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Tanit Chalermyanont, Vice President for Planning and Finance at Prince of Songkla University. This was followed by an opening remark by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Poon Thiengburanathum, Deputy Director of the Program Management Unit for Area-based Development (PMUA), who presented the vision and direction for area-based development cooperation between the two nations.
🔹A key highlight of the conference was a keynote speech by Dr. Kirida Bhaopichitr, Assistant Minister for the Ministry of Commerce. Her address focused on the opportunities and potential of the Thailand–Malaysia Economic Corridor, emphasizing the importance of connectivity in trade, investment, tourism, and supply chains to strengthen regional competitiveness and unlock new economic prospects.
🔹During the Plenary Presentations, representatives from the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority (NCIA) of Malaysia, alongside academics from Prince of Songkla University, presented insights into the economic potential of both regions. They also discussed peace and development issues in the Southern Border Provinces of Thailand, highlighting them as crucial factors for driving long-term economic cooperation.
🔹Another significant session involved presenting findings and policy recommendations gathered from local stakeholder consultations. The presentation was delivered by a senior advisory team from the World Bank, working in partnership with the Faculty of Economics and the Institute for Peace Studies at Prince of Songkla University. The study analyzed opportunities, challenges, and cooperation strategies across three key strategic sectors: Tourism, Agribusiness, and Logistics.
Furthermore, participants engaged in Breakout Sessions categorized by the three strategic areas to exchange insights, identify bottlenecks, and co-create policy and operational proposals for Thailand–Malaysia cooperation.
🔹The conference concluded with a Plenary: Strategic Discussion moderated by Ms. Ditte Fallesen from the World Bank. The discussion aimed to chart future action plans and establish a roadmap for the Thailand–Malaysia Joint Economic Corridor. The event was officially brought to a close with closing remarks by Assistant Professor Dr. Parat Prommee, Dean of the Faculty of Economics at Prince of Songkla University.
This conference reflects the pivotal role of Prince of Songkla University in leveraging academic knowledge, area-based research, and international partnerships to support public policymaking and border economic development. This collective effort is set to forge stronger economic ties and foster inclusive, sustainable growth for both Thailand and Malaysia in the future.
